-Creating a Mixdown WAV/MP3

-To create a mixdown go to File—Export—Wave file

-I recommend creating a Wave mixdown of your song even if you mixdown an MP3. The reason for this is because if you want to master your song properly, then you will need it to be in waveform. MP3’s are compressed files compared to WAV’s which are uncompressed for best quality. Everytime you mixdown an MP3 from an MP3 file it looses quality. WAV files however hold their integrity to retain the best sound quality.

-Make sure the Disable max poly light is off, the Bitrate slider is set to max, and the Depth is at the quality you prefer your song to be. If you’re using high-end software such as Pro-Tools to master your songs, then I suggest using 32Bit, otherwise 16Bit is just fine. If you need to re-load the sequences into Pro-Tools/Cubase/Audition etc. then click the Split mixer tracks box.

-To create an MP3 of your completed song go to the menu, select File—Export—MP3 file

-To master your song use a sound editing/studio program such as Cool Edit Pro, Cubase, Acid, or of course Pro-Tools. If you have a Linux OS(Ubuntu etc.) use Audacity, Rosegarden, or Ardour. WINE will also run Goldwave which is a free yet powerful sound editor that you can use to master your songs with. Learning how to properly master your songs will come with time. There’s no single program that will give you an edge over another, since the quality of your finished product will depend on your skills. The best method is to listen closely and monitor your decibels. Compress your songs as well, and use hiss/noise reduction accordingly.
