This drum loops tutorial is for sample chopping in the piano roll only. If you want to learn how to make drum loops in the sequencer go back and select Drum Loops-SQ from the list of links.
-After loading the drum loop you want to chop in the FL Slicer, choose a BPM(Tempo) that you want your drum loop to be. If you’re unsure about what tempo to use, then try somewhere between 80-98 unless you’re making DNB, or Trance, or any type of dance music. |
-Right click on the slicer and select Piano Roll to open. Delete all the green blocks/squares by hitting CTRL and DEL button at the same time. |
-You will see on the left each slice assigned with a number. Each slice represents a kick/snare/hatt. When you click on a slice you can see which slice makes what sound. In the picture below Slice #1 is a kick and Slice #5 is a snare. I’ve arranged them to make a drum loop, where each green square represents the sound being activated in the sequence. Each empty square in the Piano Roll represents 1 beat, so from the beginning of the first kick to the end represents 1 musical bar(16 beats/squares). Musicians/DJ’s count beats like this: 1-2-3-4, 2-2-3-4, 3-2-3-4, 4-2-3-4, which is 16 beats(1 bar) or 16 empty squares in the piano roll from left to right. You can press the Play button and experiment by putting blocks in random places until you get something you like and want to work with. Once you’ve got your loop finished, and you want to keep it, then simply close it and it’ll stay in your sequencer. |
