Step Sequencer Allows you to trigger your samples to play during a certain section of the sequence. For instance, if you highlight the first slot on “Kick”, and the 5th slot on “Snare”, then you would have a basic 4/4 drum loop. You can also change the “Swing” of the beat by dragging the slider over to the right. The “Graph Filter” button has more options to add to your beat such as the velocity, or how hard each individual sample plays when triggered. |
Piano Roll The piano roll allows you to use your computer keyboard or your midi-controller keyboard just like a piano. It automatically changes the pitch of your sample to match the note you strike on the keys. However, it’s use is not just limited to one main function. You can re-arrange whole loops, chop your sample, open templates(scores), save templates(scores), and even adjust how long an individual sample is played for during the sequence. |
Mixer The mixer allows you to add effects to your individual samples or the whole beat itself. It also allows you to EQ the whole beat or compress the beat as well. |
Playlist The playlist is the arranger of your patterns. This allows you to create a whole song from the 2-4-8-12-16 bar patterns you created. |
Channel Settings Channel settings control a lot of options for your sample. You can change everything from pitch, direction, length, and even which mixer effect is assigned to that sample. The basic options such as volume and balance are also controlled in this module. |
Browser The browser is used for one function: browsing. This is the “lazy man’s” way to load a sample into a sound bank within your sequencer. However, it only allows you to browse samples installed within your FL Studio directory in your Program Files. I recommend using the browser if you’re a beginner, but soon you will discover that it just wastes desktop space. |
Tempo/Patterns This module controls the tempo, pattern selection, play/stop/record, and whether you want to enter pattern mode or song mode. |
Menu The menu controls all functions and options, and shows you the keyboard shortcuts. It also controls the master volume/pitch, and indicates when you strike a midi key by lighting up the midi box. |
